History: Money, wine, women, luxury, power. These are the things Greed lives and, quite often recklessly, dies for. It numbers among the emotional avatars, and is one of the first entities brought into existence.
As an avatar, Greed has had many beginnings, often ending with whoever holds the mantle coming into conflict with a well-fated hero or someone with even more power than themselves. It’s most recent host certainly did not lack any of the usual qualities of a greed avatar. Born to a wealthy noble in a time when the nation of Utorion had not yet been created, Prameticus was into a careless lifestyle from birth . Unluckily, he came before four other sons which made near invisible to his fathers attention. It was unlikely that he would inherit much of anything and was politically an undesirable marriage choice. This drove a wedge between him and his family as spent more time in the towns and villages under his fathers leadership where people looked up at him in awe. The peasants would give him anything he wished. Often times he’d sit down in a pub for hours and simply bask in the men who came up to pay their respects and the groups of girls who took turns glancing at and giggling. Rumors soon spread of him knighting stable boys and secretly marrying lowborn girls in three different villages.
By the time Prameticus was 17 his father and all four brothers had died in a peasant revolt of surprisingly well armed lowborns. No sooner had he been pronounced lord than he’d decided to grab the treasury, loot the halls and run off with a small army filled with faces from the recent revolt and a young, voluptuous blonde girl clutching at his chest while his horse galloped to strange lands. Three months later there wasn’t a familiar face in his army and a black haired, lean woman road with him. Prameticus had decided on creating a new life after his old companions began to feel stagnant. He operated as the Hired Lora, a band of mercenaries, taking jobs from lesser nobles over some insignificant squabble and often playing both sides for more gain. This ended with his band’s reputation tarnished when Prameticus decided on a whim that a battle he was getting involved in would be too costly for such little gain and retreated to raid his employers unguarded castle of belongings and his wife and daughter. After that he was a bandit chief, an adventure which ended with the largest alliance of bandit clans in Albacus’ history after he’d launched a campaign of recruiting in all of their camps and sent love letters to their women and themselves as well. The larger army slowly died of attrition and infighting as they chased Prameticus (which happened to his clan of bandits as well). He became a godking of a small tribe and sold them as slaves before stealing them back, he became a slave himself as he started to like the idea and was sold to pirates, he seduced the first mate and convinced the man to free him and mutiny against the captain.
The final chapter of Prameticus as a human was during a time when he settled down in a lavish castle with multiple lovers and servants, rooms of gold created for him simply marvel at. Still, he was dissatisfied with this. His urges only grew the more and more his possessions grew. The cycle had to end. Prameticus built himself a tomb larger than his castle and demanded that on his death all his belongings, lovers and servants included, be buried with him. Then he began to send over stewards to converse with the poorer and less loyal nobles in Albacus. Prameticus explained he was willing to back them in coup for the kingdom, giving them enough resources to stand a chance against those loyal. The plan revolved around striking hard at the kings castle and burning it to the ground. Prameticus was present during the inferno, staring at it in awe. As he thought of owning a kingdom and how that might finally satisfy him he barely felt the sword of a betrayer sliding through his ribs.
At the time the world had gone a long while without an avatar of greed. All Ramael had to choose from were fat lords that taxed their people more than they could pay and thief kings. When Prameticus first caught his eye, he grew interested. A feeling that wasn’t too uncommon for the god, but it was still of significance that a mortal had inspired it in him. And so Ramael brought the dieing creature into the fold as the new avatar.
Personality: Unsurprisingly, the defining trait of Prameticus is his greed. He keeps himself composed and carefree as he suspects nothing short of godhood will satisfy him. Recognizing he has no hope of usurping Ramael, the avatar sticks to the mortal world, living any life he feels like at the moment. This also helps to satiate his second love, competition. Prameticus has never been one to turn down a challenge and sometimes holds off on victory so that he can feel alive for a little longer.
Powers/abilities/gear:
Dark energy: Though Prameticus never practiced the arcane arts in his mortal life the Avatar of Greed is a master of it by nature. He draws on darkness to power potent spells that are often malicious in nature. He tends to mix powerful illusions and large scale attacks to great effect.
Transformation: Whatever face the avatar wears now it is certainly not the one he was born with. Like many of the avatars, Greed has a gift for manipulating his body in fantastic ways . Changing his face is just the beginning of this ability. He can contort himself into almost any size or shape imaginable with even furniture not being out of the question. However growing in size does not actually add to Prameticus’ weight nor does shrinking reduce it, calling the physical effectiveness of assuming such forms into question.
Ownership: Ownership is not just a an abstract claim for the avatar of avarice, but a magical bond. Anything he claims can not only be manipulated in terms of it’s physical and spiritual (if it has one) state, but are actually apart of him. All things tied to greed desire to get back to their master if sufficiently far away and exert a corrupting influence, enticing others to desire them and exacerbating their greed. No matter what path the people who possess these objects take, the trail always ends at the item’s true owner.
Emotional Absorption: As with all avatars, Prameticus absorbs the desire felt by those around him, increasing his power.
Mundverrater: A combination of both halberd and trident, the weapon’s use never ceases to come without great cost. Perhaps that is why Ramael allows Greed to call to summon it from it‘s realm so easily. In it’s world Mundverrater is a force of balance, a golden remora engraved with images of dragons, relentlessly feeding off the most powerful resident of the realm. Once pulled from it’s realm it takes on the form of a weapon. Mundverrater hungers for anything it considers valuable and has no qualms with stealing the life force of even it’s wielder. The weapon is as light as air and it’s blades and spear tips are abnormally sharp. When in a very close proximity with energy or wealth, Mundverrater will move of it’s own accord to steal it away. The artifact balances this by quickly expending whatever it’s collected in it’s form by way of strong spells.
Grand Maw: A giant, tireless serpent constantly devouring the golden ocean realm it resides in. It’s mouth is large enough for the beast to swallow itself whole. It’s long body is covered in blubber and smooth, scale less skin that shimmers in a range of colours in light. It would have destroyed it’s world long ago if not for the golden remora taking the contents of it’s stomach and expending it back into the world. As the summon of Greed, it can enter the realm of Xanvius. This has little effect on the Grand Maw’s demeanour as it continues to engulf anything it considers of worth to it, precious metals numbering among it’s most desired meals. Though there is no land to speak of in it’s home, the monster can manage itself on land, albeit slower and more clumsily than if it were in water.
